On June 20th, French luxury brands Chanel, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld jointly held a commemoration of the late German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld at the Grand Palais in Paris. - "Karl for Ever (forever Karl)."

Paris is the second home of Karl Lagerfeld, and the Grand Palais in Paris also witnessed his greatest achievement in his life. In the last decade of his life, Karl Lagerfeld hosted several grand fashion shows that shocked the fashion world.

The commemoration was conceived, directed and designed by renowned theatre, opera and art director Robert Carsen. He reviewed Karl Lagerfeld's life through a short video interspersed with various Karl Lagerfeld quotes, multilingual puns and jokes, and a short interview with friends and colleagues around him. At the same time, he also invited a lot of actors, musicians and dancers that Karl Lagerfeld enjoyed during his lifetime, and invited them to show Karl Lagerfeld's favorite music and literature in his performance or reading.

Karl Lagerfeld's relatives , friends and former colleagues have come from all over the world to participate in this grand event. Designers attending the event include: French luxury brand Fendi founding family member Silvia Venturini Fendi, British designer Stella McCartney, French luxury brand Lanvin former creative director Alber Elbaz, French designer Haider Ackermann, Italian luxury brand Valentino founder Valentino Garavani, USA Fashion designer Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger and more.

The commemorative short film begins with the evaluation of Karl Lagerfeld by Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of the American version of Vogue. She remembers: "Karl is not only an outstanding designer, but also a linguist, photographer, interior designer, filmmaker and a philanthropist. It deserves all of us to admire and commemorate."

Although known for his rigorous work attitude, Karl Lagerfeld loves to be late. Silvia Venturini Fendi lamented sadly in the short film: "When we rushed to Paris to sign the first contract with him, Karl Lagerfeld was still very young, but at that time he let us wait for 3 hours. I have been working for many years, I have already know that he likes the habit of being late. I hope that this time is only late for a long time, instead of actually leaving us."

In addition, Chinese famous pianist Lang Lang, British actress Helen Mirren, Tilda Swinton, British model Cara Delevingne, American rapper Pharrell Williams and French actress Fanny Ardant performed on Karl Lagerfeld's favorite literary and musical works. Lang Lang’s ecstasy of Chopin’s gorgeous big waltz in E major made many guests’ eyes burst into tears.

When the French model Cara Delevingne, whom Karl Lagerfeld loves, came to the stage and recited a poem about cats written by the French woman writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, the "little lover" who accompanied Karl Lagerfeld in the last years - the cat Choupette was also on the stage with the company.

Everyone was surprised and pity for Karl Lagerfeld's death and suggested building a monument in the Grand Palais. But himself has always been very open-minded about life and death. He once said: "I hate the idea of 'death', I prefer to say 'disappear'. I don't want to be the real existence of anyone's life. I want to be a phantom, I have appeared, and it is time to leave. When I left, I disappeared."

The German-born fashion designer died on February 19, 2019. In order to follow his wishes, his loved ones and close friends held a private ceremony in Nanterre on the outskirts of Paris after his death, keeping his body low-key cremated.

On July 4th, Fendi will hold a high couture show at the famous Rome sights of the Trevi Fountain that is paying tribute to Karl Lagerfeld
