Piecing in coats is more diversified. Piecing has evolved from half-piece piecing in A/W 18/19 to placement piecing in A/W 19/20 to breaking-style unit piecing in A/W 20/21. Basic unit fabrics are pieced together. Unit-silhouette suits, detachable closures and shoulder dissecting are all achieved by piecing. In A/W 20/21 silhouettes are accentuated. Sheeny fabrics also play a key role.
Unlike A/W 18/19 LOEWE's closure in different lengths and displaced closure as well as A/W 19/20 Stella McCartney's wide and separate closure and two-layer closure, the closure in A/W 20/21 evolves to simple and detachable closure.
Shoulder deconstruction gets more popular for A/W 19/20. The filled parts on the deconstructed shoulders are key. Two layers, contrast shoulder seams and detachable sleeves are accentuated.
More inspirations are drawn from trench coats and suits: suit linings for outside piecing, deconstructing and piecing of princess lines, closure piecing. Check fabrics add interest.
Basic fabrics are key here. Reinvented textures, geometric knitting, inserted piecing, fraying piecing, fur piecing are applied to renew fabrics. Regular stitches are also a new direction.
Placement leather & fur piecing add volume and wools add warmth. Contrast fur on the shoulders are impressive.
